Voice for Animals

PGH Voice for Animals program supports projects, organizations, or individual people whose passion it is to defend the rights of animals, who protect animals and care for their wellbeing, doing so many times quietly on a shoestring budget as „unsung heroes“, or as legal warriors defending the animals‘ rights of ethical treatment and protection. If we support an organization or  a project, we have a detailed knowledge of the specific project and local situation, know the people involved, and know that our help will make a direct impact on the protection and wellbeing of animals. We distribute funding based on budgets to the individuals, caretakers or organization in charge and monitor the results.

Currently PGH Voice for Animals is supporting the project „Care for Cat Colonies“ in Baleares, Spain

Care for Cat Colonies Andratx, Spain

Caring for feral cat colonies means:

  1. Avoiding malnutrition by providing them with basic food and water supply
  2. Providing anti-parasite treatments and administrating medical care for ill or injured animals
  3. Limiting the reproduction through Trap-Neuter-Release programs (TNR)

Healthy cat colonies have a stable and balanced population with minimal reproduction, that lives in balance with the ecosystem and human population. Healthy cat colonies have a low incidence of contagious diseases and authorized caregivers provide food, water, and monitor the cats‘ health at dedicated locations.

Project Focus

Due to lack of funding, increasing costs, a harsh Corona lockdown in Spain that under penalty of law restricted TNR activities, the current cat population in many communities have reached a peak.  This causes not only deteriorating conditions within the colonies and suffering of the animals, but sadly often also friction with residents. We are currently supporting our local partners in the reestablishment of healthy cat colonies in the municipality of Andratx, Spain.

What we do specifically

Find a Forever Home for Abandoned Animals Andratx, Spain

Regretfully it happens frequently that house-pets are abandoned by their owners. While this happens with with dogs, sadly it happens even more frequently with cats. A socialized cat who grew up in a house environment with humans will have a hard time adjusting to life on the streets, as they lack the survival skills and joining a feral cat colony is difficult for a socialized cat. They will try to adopt to street life but the process is stressful for them and they often soon end up malnourished and sick.  They will try to find access to food and humans, but soon find that they are not welcome everywhere. When we identify an abandoned dog or cat (owner could either not be found or was found but rejected the animal) we try our best to find a suitable new Forever-Home. Often an abandoned animal needs medical attention before it can be placed, which then is provided by our partner Veterinarian clinics.
